Dear Parents/Guardians,
The goal of the Brielle Elementary School District is to assist your child in becoming a lifelong reader. The summer months provide the perfect opportunity to extend and enrich your child's reading experiences. Attached please find a list of suggested books for your child's grade level. These books are not required reading, however, the list is to assist you in selecting appropriate reading materials for your child to read over the summer months.
The following tips may be helpful for all parents/guardians:
* Encourage your child to select the books that interest them.
* Whenever possible, children should read at least 10 minutes per day.
* Read aloud to your child, even if they want to read independently.
* Read outside.
* Set aside a portion of the day as DEAR time - Drop Everything and Read.
* Encourage your child to read magazines, newspapers, even the back of a cereal box!
*Ask your child questions about the book; who, what, where, why, when and how.
* Review comprehension, vocabulary, and listening skills when reading aloud.Many of the books on the list are available at the Brielle Public Library or the Monmouth County Library Branch in Wall. Summer reading clubs and programs are available at the Brielle Library. Remember to check out local bookstores for new releases for your children to read.
A special thank you to the Brielle BOE, Brielle PTO, Brielle Education Foundation, Mrs. Carlson and parents who have supported our reading programs throughout the years.
Continue to check out our website www.brielleschool.org for updated information regarding our reading programs.
Whether on the beach or hanging inside on a rainy day.....don't forget to curl up with a good book!
Have a wonderful and safe summer! See you all in September!
Mr. Colin Sabia, Vice Principal
