In third grade, all students will learn about the United States as well as New Jersey History. They will be expected to take notes, complete class work, projects, maps, homework, and participate in class. Objectives to be taught are in conjunction with NJ Core Curriculum Content Standards.

Geography and MapsThe Reference Section of our Regions textbook has great information that can be used. The Reference Section begins on page R2 of the text and includes an Atlas section with many types of maps, geographic terms, states, info about people, as well the glossary and an index. Not only is the Reference Section a great resource to use but the following websites may be of interest: Maps 4 Kids, National Geographic, Fact Monster, and Surfnet Kids, just to name a few. Current Events and GovernmentDuring the course of the year students will be expected to do current events. The local newspaper, Coast Star, as well as the Asbury Park Press is a wonderful way to learn about the happennings in our world. Parents are expected to help supervise students as they pick out appropriate articles to do their events on. Sports articles are discouraged from being used as a current event.
