This year we continue our Spanish program for Kindergarten through 4th grade. The overall goal of this program is the communicative competence of students in the Spanish language by means of cultural awareness activities that focus on the gradual development of listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in each level. The program's specific objectives are to introduce students to Hispanic and Hispanic American culture, foster a postive attitude toward language learning and to provide a solid foundation for basic communication skills. All of these objectives will prepare our students for their high school and college experience.
This program makes World Language a cultural adventure! The program explores language and culture through explicit presentation and integration of the 5 C's: Communication, Culture, Connections, Comparisons and Communities.
Student Evaluation and Assessment
There are many ways to assess learning of a foreign language. For the Spanish program we use the traditional quiz as well as the rubric which is a scoring tool that lists specific criteria student's must meet in order to achieve a certain grade. When we evaluate a student we look for listening proficiency, speaking proficiency and classroom participation. All of these are very important!
SPANISH CLASS SUPPLIES
