MATHEMATICS
Creating “points of intersection” between content and practice, the Brielle Elementary School K-8 Mathematics curriculum is defined by the New Jersey Student Learning Standards and Standards for Mathematical Practice. Students progress through domains of mathematical standards and practices across grade levels, allowing for topics and thinking to be built upon each school year. Mathematics instruction seeks to secure conceptual understanding, mathematical reasoning, and perseverance, and procedural fluency through real-world problem solving and application. A workshop model, similar to that of literacy, is utilized in order to provide targeted small-group instruction that supports a range of skills and abilities. Through formative and summative assessment data, teachers are able to differentiate instruction to deliver appropriate mathematical rigor and relevancy for students to obtain authentic command of math standards.
