Harassment, Intimidation, and Bullying
The Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights was passed in New Jersey on January 5, 2011. As a result, each school district pursuant to section 3 of P.L. 2002, c.83 is mandated to include provisions for appropriate responses to harassment, intimidation or bullying (HIB). Each school is mandated to appoint a Safety Team led by a School Specialist and District Anti-bullying Coordinator. The designees and their roles are as follows:
· School Specialists -
Mrs. Beth O’Reilly, School Guidance Counselor (Grades 6-8) email@example.com
Mrs. Adrienne Mahon (Grades K-5) firstname.lastname@example.org
The School Specialists chair the Safety Team, lead the investigations of incidents of harassment, intimidation, and bullying in the school and act as the primary school officials responsible for preventing, identifying and addressing incidents of HIB.
· School Coordinator -
Lisa Kenny, School Psychologist email@example.com
The Anti-Bullying Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and strengthening the school district’s policies to prevent, identify, and address HIB of students. She collaborates with the specialists in the district and Board of Education, and provides pertinent data to Mrs. Christine Carlson, Superintendent of schools and the State Department of Education.
- District Coordinator -
Colin Sabia, firstname.lastname@example.org
The District coordinator meets twice a year with the specialists (once in the fall and once in the spring) to discuss and strengthen procedures and policies to prevent, identify, and address harassment, intimidation, and bullying in the district.
The school district Safety Team will develop, foster, and maintain a positive school climate by focusing on the on-going, systemic process and practices in the school and address issues of HIB. The team will meet at least two times per school year.
The School Safety team receives complaints of bullying, receives copies of reports prepared after an investigation of a HIB incident, identifies and addresses patterns of HIB, reviews and strengthens school climate, educates the school community in preventing HBI incidents, participates in appropriate training, and collaborates with the district anti-bullying coordinator.
Mrs. Christine Carlson, Principal/Superintendent will be responsible for the disciplinary actions for students in grades 6-8 and Mr. Colin Sabia, will be responsible for the discipline of students in grades K-5.
