February 2024:

If you are interested in trying out for the 2024 Brielle Baseball Team, please go to the Google Classroom site for the team. (see: https://classroom.google.com/c/NjY0MjAwNjQyMjc2?cjc=5on3whs)

On the team baseball site you will see a Google Form to fill out so I can make sure Mrs. Looney has your physical on record.

Tryouts will tentatively begin on Monday, March 25th and a second tryout is tentatively set for Wednesday, March 27th. When we do start, please dress for the outside weather. It tends to be very cold in late March and you will need to wear a sweatshirt with multiple layers to stay warm.

Stop and see me or email me at slabrecque@brielleschool.org with any questions you may have.

See you on March 25th hopefully.

Coach Labrecque

March 28th, 2022

Due to the cold weather today, tryouts for the baseball team will begin tomorrow, Tuesday, March 29th from 3:10-5:00 pm.

See everyone on Tuesday. Please dress warmly!

March 3rd, 2022

I am checking to find out when exactly baseball tryouts will begin and will post this information on the Google Classroom Baseball Site. The Google Classroom Baseball Site's code is: dg6hyc5

We'll start tryouts on Monday, March 28th from 3:10-5:00 pm. I am waiting for the school play to be over, so if there are any boys involved in the play, they will have an opportunity to try out for the baseball team.

Here is a link to sign up to tryout for the baseball team: CLICK

I just wanted to remind the team that it may be a good idea to have a sweatshirt and multiple other layers of clothing in your bag for practices. It gets quite cold outside at practice and by 5:00 pm the sun is not as strong so it gets even colder.

Items you may want to pack in your baseball bag:
water bottle
your glove
your bat
your batting helmet - you can wear your own helmet again this year and if you don't have one, we have helmets for the team's use
if you are a catcher, your catching equipment
a sweatshirt/long sleeve t-shirts/Under Armour or the like
Cleats (non-metal) and sneakers

See everyone soon!

Coach Labrecque

If you are in 6th-8th grade, please sign up if your are interested in playing for the school baseball team.

Our first game of the season is scheduled for Monday, April 26th. We will likely start tryouts on Monday, April 19th so that those that go away over the Spring Break have time to quarantine. If the rules regarding quarantining change, we could start tryouts after we return from Spring Break.

Looking forward to seeing everyone very soon.

April 2020:

TO: ALL ATHLETIC DIRECTORS
 RE: M.C.A.L. BASEBALL/SOFTBALL

DUE TO THE CORONAVIRUS THE 2020 M.C.A.L. BASEBALL AND SOFTBALL SEASONS ARE CANCELLED.

AFTER DISCUSSIONS WITH VARIOUS ADMINISTRATORS I HAVE DECEIDED THAT IT IS TIME TO CANCEL THIS YEARS BASEBALL AND SOFTBALL SEASONS.

IT APPEARS VERY UNLIKELY THAT SCHOOLS WILL BE OPEN IN TIME TO HAVE ANY TIME TO HAVE TRY-OUTS AND TO HAVE ENOUGH DAYS TO HAVE ANY TYPE OF SEASON. I THINK AT THIS POINT IT IS PRUDENT TO MAKE THE DECISION TO CANCEL OUR SPRING SPORTS.

DON NEICE

March 17th, 2020

I read this on the MCAL website today:

3/16/2020

TO: ALL MCAL MEMBER SCHOOLS

RE: MCAL BASEBALL AND SOFTBALL

AFTER DISCUSSION WITH LESTER W. RICHENS, SUPERINTEND OF MONMOUTH COUNTY SCHOOLS THE FOLLOWING DECISION HAS BEEN MADE CONCERNING THE 2020 MCAL BASEBALL/SOFTBALL SEASON.

ALL BASEBALL AND SOFTBALL GAMES PRIOR TO APRIL 20, 2020 WILL BE CANCELLED.
ON OR BEFORE APRIL 15, 2020 A DECISION WILL BE MADE CONCERNING THE REST OF THE SEASON.
OUR CHOICES AT THAT POINT WILL BE TO EITHER CANCEL THE SEASON OR PLAY A SHORTENED SEASON.  ALL GAMES NOT PLAYED WILL NOT BE RESCHEDULED.  A DIVISION CHAMPION WOULD BE IN PLAY, BUT THERE WILL BE NO CHAMPIONSHIP GAME.

IF THE NJSIAA MAKES A DECISION THAT IMPACTS SPRING SPORTS ON THE HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL PRIOR TO APRIL 15, I WILL TAKE THAT IN TO CONSIDERATION.

IF INDIVIDUAL MCAL MEMBER SCHOOLS DECIDE TO CANCEL THEIR BASEBALL/SOFTBALL SEASON, THIS WOULD ALSO HAVE AN IMPACT ON OUR SEASON.  MY DECISION CONCERNING OUR LEAGUE SHOULD NOT HAVE AN INFLUENCE ON EACH INDIVIDUAL SCHOOL.  EACH OF OUR MEMBER SCHOOLS SHOULD DO WHAT THEY THINK IS PRUDENT FOR THEIR SCHOOL.

March 16th, 2020

With the Coronavirus closing school, baseball is on a delay like all sports today. We'll see what happens when/if school opens up.

March 29th, 2018

Thank you very much to the 18 boys that tried out for the Brielle Elementary School Baseball Team this year. It was a pleasure to work with the boys this week at tryouts. Picking a team is always my least favorite part of being a coach because they are all good boys that I would love to spend my Spring with. There are 10 eighth graders on this year's team so if you did not make the team this year, thank you for your efforts this week. I think there is a great opportunity to make the team next year once the eighth graders graduate and leave 10 openings on the team. If you have any questions about what you can work on for next year, please come see me and we can discuss what I observed at tryouts.

If you do see your number below, congratulations. I'll see you at practice on Monday, April 9th as we prepare for our first game on Thursday, April 12th vs Wall Intermediate School.

March 28th, 2018

I will be meeting those boys that are still in town and available on Thursday, March 29th from 3:10-4:30 pm. This should hopefully be our last day of tryouts.

Thank you. Have a great Easter!

March 26th, 2018

I was able to check out the baseball field this morning before school and it looks like we are a go to begin tryouts later today. I will see the boys at 3:10 pm. Tryouts will end today at 5:30 pm. I'll try to wind things up around 5:20/5:25 and have the boys heading out the door by 5:30 pm.

March 22nd, 2018

The snow was pretty substantial last night, the Brielle Board of Education Meeting recognizing the Boys' Basketball Team was moved to Friday afternoon, and the school play was moved to Friday night. As a result, we will begin baseball tryouts on Monday, March 26th, from 3:10-5:30 pm. Hopefully the warmer weather will melt the snow and the baseball field will be playable on Monday. Please dress warm on Monday at tryouts.

March 19th, 2018

We are on schedule to begin baseball tryouts this Friday, March 23rd from 3:10-5:30 pm. The weather looks pretty bad for Tuesday night and all day Wednesday so we'll have to take it one day at a time and wait for the field to be free of snow before we have tryouts. If you are involved in the school play, please wait to tryout on Monday, March 26th. I hope to have the team picked after 3 days of tryouts.

Please make sure you are dressed warm for tryouts. Layers and sweatshirts would be beneficial. It gets very cold outside late in the afternoon.

February 26th, 2018

Now that the basketball season has come to an end, we can begin to prepare for the baseball season.

I am hoping to begin tryouts, for those students not involved in the play, on Friday, March 23rd. Those involved in the play will begin tryouts on Monday, March 26th. The tryouts should last 3 days. A sign up form can be found outside Coach Labrecque's 4th grade classroom. Please have all your medical forms to Mrs. Looney ASAP.

See you at tryouts.

Coach Labrecque

January 31st, 2018

The spring baseball season will soon be here. Hopefully the boys are gearing up for tryouts in late March before the Easter break. Our first MCAL game is scheduled for Monday, April 16th at Antrim. The rest of our schedule can be found on the "Team Schedule" page on this website.

Enjoy the rest of your winter and I'll see you in late March.

Coach Labrecque

May 25th, 2017

Today's game has unfortunately been rained out again. With the conflicts that both teams have every day from tomorrow until the beginning of June, the game will not be made up and our season has officially come to an end. Please drop off your uniform jerseys ASAP so I can inventory the jerseys and pack them away for next year.

It was a fun season and with a large core of the team returning next year, I have high hopes for a very successful 2018 season. Best of luck to our graduating 8th graders next year in high school and congratulations on your upcoming graduation!

Enjoy your summer everyone!

Coach Labrecque

Practice today will be from 3:10-4:45 pm

April 25th, 2017

I have to cancel practice today since I have to leave school early with an family emergency. We will practice tomorrow. Sorry to have to cancel.

April 11th, 2017

Just a reminder that practice ends tomorrow (Wednesday, April 12th) at 4:15 pm so the boys can go home to do homework before the Faculty vs 8th grade basketball game (if they decide to attend) at 7 pm.

We also decided as a team to end practice this Thursday at 4:30 pm since many of the boys will not be in school due to the Easter/Spring vacation.

When we return to school on Monday, April 24th, the 7th graders will have their field trip. So we will only practice from 3:10-4:30 pm on April 24th since the 7th grade boys will be exhausted from a long day on their trip.

Thank you and Happy Easter to you and your family!

April 7th, 2017

Just a reminder that practice is until 4:30 pm today. Have a great weekend!

April 6th, 2017

March 30th, 2017

With only 17 players trying out for the team this season, I think it would be best if we kept all 17 players that finished tryouts. Last year, we had 16 players on the team and we will try to make 17 team members work this year. I have discussed with the boys that due to the large number of players on the team, playing time could be limited for some players but a letter will come home to address this in more detail in the coming days.

So, congratulations to the following players for making the 2017 Brielle Blazers Baseball team.
